Clinical Description
Softas Plus is a veterinary medicated antiparasitic shampoo formulated for controlling stubborn external parasite infestations in dogs. Permethrin 2% is a synthetic pyrethroid ectoparasiticide that acts on the nervous system of susceptible parasites, helping eliminate ticks, fleas and lice.
Aloe Vera 0.5% provides supportive skin-conditioning and soothing effects, helping maintain skin and coat condition during treatment of parasite-associated irritation.
Indications / Recommended Uses
Softas Plus Shampoo is recommended for the management of ectoparasitic infestations in dogs, particularly:
- Ticks
- Fleas
- Lice
- Associated itching, scratching and skin irritation
It is particularly intended for stubborn ectoparasitic infestations requiring a medicated topical shampoo.
Dosage & Administration
For external use only.
Wet the dog's coat thoroughly with clean water. Apply Softas Plus liberally and massage into the coat to produce a rich lather. Allow the lather to remain in contact with the coat for approximately 5–10 minutes, then rinse thoroughly with clean water.
For severe infestations, available product directions state that treatment may be repeated twice weekly, or use as directed by the Registered Veterinary Practitioner.
Key Benefits
Softas Plus provides effective topical ectoparasite control against ticks, fleas and lice. The higher 2% permethrin concentration is formulated for stubborn infestations, while Aloe Vera helps soothe irritated skin and maintain a healthy-looking coat.
Precautions
Do not use on cats. Permethrin can be highly toxic to cats. Avoid allowing cats to contact or groom a recently treated dog until the dog's coat has been thoroughly rinsed and is dry.
Avoid contact with the dog's eyes, nose and mouth. Prevent licking of the shampoo/lather during treatment.
Available directions state that Softas Plus should not be used in puppies below 3 months of age or nursing bitches.
Possible Adverse Effects
Sensitive animals may occasionally develop skin irritation, redness, itching or discomfort. Accidental ingestion or excessive exposure to permethrin may cause toxicity, with signs potentially including excessive salivation, vomiting, tremors or abnormal behaviour.
If significant irritation or signs of toxicity develop, rinse the animal thoroughly and contact a veterinarian promptly.
Storage
Store below 25°C, protected from excessive heat and direct sunlight. Keep the container tightly closed and out of reach of children and animals.
Important Warning
For veterinary use only. For external use only. DO NOT USE ON CATS. Use carefully according to the product directions or veterinary advice. Persistent or severe tick, flea or lice infestation may require additional environmental parasite control and veterinary assessment.
