Composition

Each ml contains: Meloxicam IP — 20 mg

This is equivalent to a 2% w/v meloxicam injection, as clearly stated on the supplied product pack.

Clinical Description

MELONEX-XP is a concentrated veterinary meloxicam NSAID injection used for the control of pain, inflammation and fever. Meloxicam preferentially inhibits cyclooxygenase pathways involved in prostaglandin synthesis, thereby reducing inflammatory pain, swelling and pyrexia.

Indications / Recommended Uses

MELONEX-XP may be prescribed for management of acute pain, inflammation and fever, including musculoskeletal and locomotor disorders, traumatic inflammation, postoperative pain and inflammatory conditions. In livestock, meloxicam can also be used as supportive therapy for pain and inflammation associated with conditions such as mastitis, respiratory disease and other painful inflammatory disorders, alongside treatment of the underlying cause.

Dosage & Administration

Because this is the high-strength 20 mg/ml (2%) formulation, dosage must be calculated carefully according to species, body weight and clinical condition.

Administer only as directed by a Registered Veterinary Practitioner. The exact dose, route, frequency and treatment duration should follow the current Intas MELONEX-XP package insert. Do not use the dosage of standard Melonex 5 mg/ml for this 20 mg/ml XP formulation.

Precautions

Possible Adverse Effects

Potential NSAID-related adverse effects include gastrointestinal irritation or ulceration, reduced appetite, vomiting/diarrhoea in susceptible species, renal impairment, injection-site reactions and hypersensitivity. Risk may increase with overdose, prolonged administration or use in dehydrated animals.

Withdrawal Period

For food-producing animals, observe the meat and milk withdrawal periods stated on the current Indian Intas MELONEX-XP label/package insert. These should not be copied from another meloxicam product because approved dose, route and formulation may differ.

Storage

Store according to the instructions on the original Intas carton/vial, protected from excessive heat and direct sunlight. Keep out of reach of children.

Important Warning

Rx – For veterinary use only. MELONEX-XP contains 20 mg/ml meloxicam, so it must not be confused with lower-strength meloxicam injections. Do not combine routinely with another NSAID or corticosteroid. Use strictly under veterinary supervision.
