Clinical Description

Melonex Oral Suspension contains meloxicam, an oxicam-class NSAID that provides analgesic, anti-inflammatory and antipyretic activity. It reduces prostaglandin-mediated pain, inflammation, swelling and fever and is formulated as an oral liquid for accurate weight-based dosing in pets. 

Indications / Recommended Uses

It is used under veterinary supervision for musculoskeletal pain and inflammation, sprains, lameness, arthritis, osteoarthritis, degenerative joint disorders, fractures and postoperative pain/inflammation. Veterinary product information also describes use in other painful inflammatory conditions where meloxicam therapy is clinically appropriate. 

Dosage & Administration

For dogs, published product information describes an initial dose of 0.2 mg/kg body weight on Day 1, followed by 0.1 mg/kg once daily from Day 2 onward. Because the suspension contains 1.5 mg/ml, the exact volume must be calculated according to body weight and the veterinarian's prescription. 

Shake well before use. For oral administration only. It may be administered with food when directed.

Meloxicam dosing in cats requires particularly careful veterinary assessment and precise measurement. Do not extrapolate the dog dosage or administer repeated doses to a cat without explicit veterinary instructions.

Possible Adverse Effects

Potential adverse effects include vomiting, diarrhoea, reduced appetite, lethargy, gastrointestinal irritation/ulceration and renal impairment. Stop treatment and contact the veterinarian if significant vomiting, bloody/black stools, marked appetite loss, unusual weakness or changes in drinking/urination occur. 

Storage

Available product information specifies storage below 25°C and protection from light. Keep the bottle tightly closed and out of reach of children and animals. 

Important Warning

For veterinary use only. Prescription medicine. Accurate dosing is particularly important with meloxicam. Do not increase the dose, extend treatment duration, or combine it with other NSAIDs/steroids without veterinary direction.
