Clinical Description:
Melonex Bolus contains meloxicam, a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) of the oxicam class. Meloxicam reduces prostaglandin-mediated pain, inflammation and fever through cyclooxygenase inhibition, with preferential activity toward COX-2. 

Indications / Recommended Uses:
Used under veterinary supervision for symptomatic management of pain, inflammation and pyrexia associated with musculoskeletal disorders, traumatic or inflammatory conditions and other painful or febrile diseases. Where fever or inflammation is caused by an infection or another underlying disease, Melonex provides symptomatic relief and does not replace specific treatment of the underlying cause.

Dosage & Administration:
Administer orally according to body weight and strictly as directed by the Registered Veterinary Practitioner. Because meloxicam dosing varies by species and clinical condition, I recommend that Rayavets not publish a fixed bolus-per-body-weight dosage unless it is confirmed from the current Melonex Bolus pack insert. The manufacturer confirms that each bolus contains 100 mg meloxicam.

Precautions:
Use only under veterinary supervision. Exercise caution in animals with dehydration, gastrointestinal ulceration or bleeding, renal impairment, hepatic disease or cardiovascular compromise. Avoid concurrent administration with other NSAIDs or corticosteroids unless specifically directed by a veterinarian.

Possible Adverse Effects:
As with other NSAIDs, meloxicam may occasionally cause reduced appetite, gastrointestinal irritation, diarrhoea or other digestive disturbances. Renal or gastrointestinal complications may occur, particularly in dehydrated animals or following inappropriate dosing.

Contraindications:
Do not use in animals with known hypersensitivity to meloxicam or other NSAIDs. Avoid use in animals with significant gastrointestinal ulceration, severe kidney/liver dysfunction or bleeding disorders, unless the treating veterinarian specifically determines otherwise.

Withdrawal Period:
For cattle, buffalo or other food-producing animals, follow the meat and milk withdrawal periods stated on the current Indian product label. I recommend not adding an unverified withdrawal period to the Rayavets listing.

Storage:
Store according to the manufacturer's current pack instructions, protected from excessive heat, moisture and direct sunlight. Keep out of reach of children.

For veterinary use only. Prescription veterinary medicine. Melonex Bolus should be administered at the dose and duration prescribed by a veterinarian. Avoid combining it with another NSAID or corticosteroid without veterinary supervision.
