MSD describes Tonophosphan Vet as an injectable phosphorus preparation intended to support metabolism, milk production and fertility in livestock. 

Composition

Each 1 mL contains:

• Sodium salt of 4-dimethylamine, 2-methylphenyl-phosphinic acid – 0.2 g (200 mg)

The formulation provides 20% organically bound phosphorus preparation. 

Clinical Description

TONOPHOSPHAN VET is an injectable organic phosphorus preparation used as supportive therapy in livestock for metabolic and phosphorus-related disorders.

Phosphorus plays an important role in energy metabolism, skeletal development, cellular function and reproductive physiology. Tonophosphan is intended to provide supportive phosphorus supplementation in animals experiencing metabolic stress, debility or phosphorus-related reproductive and skeletal problems.

MSD specifically positions the product for improving metabolism, milk production and fertility in livestock. 

Indications / Recommended Uses

TONOPHOSPHAN VET is indicated as supportive treatment for:

• General metabolic disorders
• Debility and exhaustion
• Repeat breeding
• Infertility associated with phosphorus deficiency
• Rickets
• Osteomalacia
• Supporting callus formation in fractures, in combination with calcium and Vitamin D
• Tetany and paresis resulting from calcium, magnesium and phosphorus imbalance, including conditions associated with milk fever. 

Dosage & Administration

According to MSD Animal Health India's product literature:

Acute Conditions

• Large Animals: 5–20 mL
• Small Animals: 1–3 mL

Chronic Conditions

• Large Animals: 2.5–5 mL
• Small Animals: 1–2 mL. 

The exact dose, route, frequency and duration should be determined by a Registered Veterinary Practitioner according to the species, body weight and clinical condition.

Precautions

The underlying cause of infertility, repeat breeding, weakness or metabolic disease should be properly evaluated rather than relying solely on phosphorus supplementation.

In animals with metabolic disorders such as milk fever, appropriate correction of calcium, magnesium, phosphorus and other metabolic abnormalities may also be necessary.

Do not exceed the veterinarian-recommended dose.

Possible Adverse Effects

TONOPHOSPHAN VET is intended for veterinary use at recommended doses. As with injectable preparations, occasional local injection-site or hypersensitivity reactions may occur.

Any unexpected or persistent reaction should be evaluated by a veterinarian.

Storage

Store according to the instructions printed on the current product pack/leaflet, protected from inappropriate heat, light and contamination.

Keep the vial properly closed and out of reach of children.
