The vaccine is supplied as a freeze-dried preparation and reconstituted with the accompanying sterile solvent before administration.
Clinical Description
NOBIVAC TRICAT TRIO is a three-component core vaccine for cats designed to induce active immunity against three important feline viral diseases:
Feline Viral Rhinotracheitis (FHV-1) — an important cause of feline upper respiratory disease.
Feline Calicivirus (FCV) — associated particularly with respiratory and oral disease.
Feline Panleucopenia (FPLV) — a highly contagious viral disease that can cause severe gastrointestinal illness and marked reduction in white blood cells, especially in kittens.
The vaccine reduces clinical signs and virus shedding associated with FCV and FHV-1 and prevents clinical signs, virus excretion and leucopenia caused by FPLV.
Indications / Recommended Uses
NOBIVAC TRICAT TRIO is indicated for active immunisation of healthy cats against:
- Feline Viral Rhinotracheitis (FHV-1)
- Feline Calicivirus (FCV) infection
- Feline Panleucopenia (FPLV)
It is a core combination vaccine for protecting kittens and cats against these major infectious diseases.
Onset & Duration of Immunity
According to MSD Animal Health:
Onset of immunity
- FCV & FHV/FVR: 4 weeks
- FPLV: 3 weeks
Duration of immunity
- FCV & FHV/FVR: 1 year
- FPLV: 3 years
Vaccination Schedule
Basic vaccination:
1st dose: From 8–9 weeks of age
2nd dose: Approximately 3–4 weeks later, from 12 weeks of age
Each vaccination consists of one reconstituted dose administered subcutaneously.
For revaccination, the Indian product leaflet specifies annual revaccination for the FCV and FHV-1 components, while the FPLV component can be revaccinated every three years with the corresponding strain. Follow the veterinarian's vaccination protocol and current Indian label.
Usage Instructions
Reconstitute the freeze-dried vaccine with the accompanying Nobivac solvent immediately before use.
Shake gently until the vaccine pellet is completely dissolved, bring the vaccine to room temperature, and administer 1 ML subcutaneously using clean injection equipment. MSD specifically advises avoiding contact of the vaccine with disinfectants.
Vaccination should be performed by a veterinarian.
Key Benefits
NOBIVAC TRICAT TRIO provides 3-in-1 core protection against major feline viral diseases with a single combination vaccine.
It helps reduce respiratory disease and viral shedding associated with feline herpesvirus and calicivirus while providing protection against feline panleucopenia, a particularly serious disease in kittens.
Precautions
Vaccinate healthy animals only. Maternal antibodies in young kittens can interfere with vaccine response, which is one reason an appropriate primary vaccination series is important.
The Indian MSD product information states that vaccination during pregnancy and lactation is not recommended, as the product has not been tested in pregnant queens or during lactation.
Possible Adverse Effects
As with other vaccines, temporary reactions can occur following vaccination. These may include mild injection-site swelling, transient increase in body temperature or temporary lethargy.
Rare hypersensitivity reactions can occur with vaccines and require prompt veterinary treatment.
Storage
Vaccine: Store at 2°C–8°C and protect from light.
Do not freeze.
MSD states that the solvent, when stored separately from the vaccine, may be stored at 15°C–25°C. Maintaining the vaccine cold chain is essential.
Important Warning
FOR ANIMAL TREATMENT ONLY. NOT FOR HUMAN USE.
The Indian product leaflet states that NOBIVAC TRICAT TRIO is to be sold by retail on the prescription of a veterinary doctor only. It should be administered by a veterinary professional while maintaining the required 2°C–8°C cold chain.
