Clinical Description
NOBIVAC DHPPi is a multivalent live attenuated canine vaccine developed to provide active immunisation against several major infectious diseases of dogs.
Canine Distemper (D) is a serious systemic viral disease that may affect the respiratory, gastrointestinal and nervous systems.
Canine Adenovirus (H) vaccination provides protection against infectious canine hepatitis caused by CAV-1, using the CAV-2 vaccine strain. It also provides protection against disease associated with CAV-2.
Canine Parvovirus (P) can cause severe, highly contagious gastrointestinal disease, particularly in young puppies.
Canine Parainfluenza (Pi) is an important respiratory pathogen involved in the canine infectious respiratory disease complex.
Indications / Recommended Uses
NOBIVAC DHPPi is indicated for active immunisation of dogs to:
- Prevent mortality and clinical signs caused by Canine Distemper Virus
- Prevent mortality and clinical signs of Infectious Canine Hepatitis caused by CAV-1
- Reduce clinical signs and viral shedding associated with CAV-2
- Prevent clinical signs and mortality and reduce viral shedding caused by Canine Parvovirus
- Reduce clinical signs and viral shedding caused by Canine Parainfluenza Virus
Onset & Duration of Immunity
The onset of immunity varies according to the vaccine component, but protective immunity generally develops within approximately 1–4 weeks following completion of the appropriate vaccination course.
For the distemper, adenovirus and parvovirus components, immunity can persist for up to 3 years following appropriate primary vaccination and booster vaccination.
For the parainfluenza component, the duration of immunity is approximately 1 year.
The actual revaccination programme should follow the current local product label and veterinarian's assessment.
Vaccination Schedule
NOBIVAC DHPPi can generally be administered from approximately 8 weeks of age as part of a puppy vaccination programme.
A commonly used programme is:
First DHPPi vaccination: approximately 8–9 weeks of age
Second DHPPi vaccination: approximately 12 weeks of age
Puppies at high risk of early exposure to distemper or parvovirus may receive NOBIVAC Puppy DP at an earlier age, followed by NOBIVAC DHPPi according to the veterinarian's vaccination schedule.
Because maternally derived antibodies can interfere with vaccine response, the timing and number of puppy vaccinations should be determined by a veterinarian.
Usage Instructions
Reconstitute the freeze-dried NOBIVAC DHPPi vaccine immediately before administration using the appropriate Nobivac solvent or compatible Nobivac liquid vaccine specified by the manufacturer.
After reconstitution, gently mix until completely dissolved and administer the entire reconstituted dose subcutaneously.
Use sterile vaccination equipment and administer the reconstituted vaccine promptly.
NOBIVAC DHPPi may be reconstituted with certain compatible Nobivac vaccines, such as appropriate leptospirosis vaccines, when indicated and permitted by the current product information.
Vaccination should be performed by or under the supervision of a veterinarian.
Key Benefits
NOBIVAC DHPPi provides convenient 4-way canine vaccination against major viral diseases:
- Distemper
- Adenovirus/Infectious Canine Hepatitis
- Parvovirus
- Parainfluenza
It provides broad protection in a single combination vaccine, making it suitable as an important component of routine puppy and adult dog vaccination programmes.
The vaccine can also be incorporated with compatible Nobivac leptospirosis and rabies vaccination programmes to provide broader infectious-disease protection.
Precautions
Vaccinate healthy dogs only.
Maternal antibodies in young puppies may interfere with development of immunity. Therefore, an appropriate primary vaccination series is particularly important.
Avoid contamination of the vaccine with disinfectants or other substances that may inactivate the live vaccine viruses.
Reconstitute only with the manufacturer's recommended solvent or specifically compatible vaccine.
Use immediately after reconstitution and follow the current product leaflet and veterinarian's vaccination protocol.
Possible Adverse Effects
Following vaccination, some dogs may experience mild and temporary reactions such as:
- Small swelling at the injection site
- Transient increase in body temperature
- Temporary lethargy or reduced activity
In rare cases, hypersensitivity/anaphylactic reactions may occur and require immediate veterinary treatment.
Any severe or persistent post-vaccination reaction should be evaluated by a veterinarian.
Storage
Store refrigerated at 2°C–8°C.
Protect from light.
Do not freeze the vaccine.
Maintain the required cold chain during storage and transportation.
After reconstitution, use the vaccine promptly according to the manufacturer's instructions.
Important Warning
FOR ANIMAL TREATMENT ONLY. NOT FOR HUMAN USE.
NOBIVAC DHPPi is a veterinary vaccine and should be supplied and administered in accordance with applicable veterinary prescription requirements.
Vaccination should be carried out by or under the supervision of a registered veterinary practitioner, with proper cold-chain maintenance and aseptic technique.
