Composition

Each 4 G powder, when reconstituted to 60 ML, contains:

Cephalexin I.P. equivalent to Anhydrous Cephalexin — 1.5 G (1500 MG). 

Clinical Description

LIXEN I.U. is a veterinary intrauterine antibiotic preparation containing Cephalexin, a first-generation cephalosporin antibacterial agent. The product is designed to deliver antibiotic therapy directly into the uterus and is supplied as a powder that is reconstituted with the provided 60 ML sterile water immediately before administration. 

Cephalexin acts by inhibiting bacterial cell-wall synthesis, producing bactericidal activity against susceptible bacteria.

Indications / Recommended Uses

LIXEN I.U. is used under veterinary supervision for susceptible bacterial uterine infections in cattle, including conditions described in veterinary product listings such as endometritis, metritis and pyometra, particularly where intrauterine antibacterial therapy is clinically appropriate. 

Dosage & Administration

Add the entire 60 ML Sterile Water for Injection I.P. supplied with the pack to the 4 G powder bottle and shake vigorously.

This produces 60 ML of suspension as a single dose.

Route: Intrauterine only

The freshly prepared 60 ML suspension must be used immediately after reconstitution. 

Administration should be performed by, or under the direction of, a registered veterinary practitioner using appropriate hygienic technique.

Precautions

Do not store the suspension after reconstitution; use immediately. For food-producing cattle, follow the current product label/veterinarian's instructions regarding applicable milk and meat withdrawal periods.

Possible Adverse Effects

Cephalosporins may occasionally cause hypersensitivity or allergic reactions. Local irritation following intrauterine administration is also possible.

If an unexpected or severe reaction occurs, discontinue treatment and obtain veterinary assistance.

Storage

Store the unopened product according to the conditions specified on the current pack/package insert. Protect it from excessive heat, moisture and direct sunlight.

Once reconstituted, the 60 ML suspension should be administered immediately and not stored for later use.
