Composition / Active Ingredients

Each Furex Bolus contains:

Nitrofurazone I.P. – 60 mg
Urea I.P. – 6 gm 

This combination provides local antibacterial and proteolytic action within the uterus. Nitrofurazone acts against susceptible microorganisms, while Urea helps dissolve necrotic tissue and assists uterine cleansing. 

Clinical Description

Furex is a veterinary intrauterine antibacterial bolus formulated for the prevention and treatment of uterine infections following reproductive complications. It dissolves rapidly in uterine/body fluids, allowing Nitrofurazone to act locally at the site of infection. 

The proteolytic action of Urea helps break down necrotic tissue, assists in clearing offensive uterine discharge and provides a soothing effect on the uterine wall, supporting normal uterine contractions. 

Indications / Uses

Furex Bolus is indicated for the prevention and treatment of uterine infections following:

Retained Placenta • Dystocia • Uterine/Vaginal Prolapse • Abortion-associated Uterine Infection

It is particularly intended for local intrauterine management where contamination and infection may occur following difficult parturition or retained fetal membranes. 

Dosage & Administration

Ewes & Sows: 2 Boluses per infected uterine horn 

Route: Intrauterine (I.U.) use

Administer under veterinary supervision using appropriate hygienic/aseptic technique.

Precautions

Animals with severe metritis, fever, systemic illness, retained placenta or complications following dystocia/abortion may require additional systemic treatment as determined by the veterinarian.

Possible Adverse Effects

Local irritation or hypersensitivity may occasionally occur. Unnecessary or inappropriate antimicrobial use should be avoided. Treatment should be reassessed if uterine discharge, fever or systemic illness persists.

Storage

Store in a cool, dark and dry place, protected from direct sunlight, excessive heat and moisture. Keep in the original packaging and out of reach of children.

Important Warning

For veterinary use only. For intrauterine use only. Furex should not be administered orally or by injection. Severe postpartum uterine infection or metritis may require systemic antimicrobial and supportive therapy in addition to local intrauterine treatment.
