Composition

Each TOXO-MOX SB 750 MG vial contains:

• Amoxycillin – 500 mg
• Sulbactam – 250 mg

Total active ingredients: 750 mg. 

Clinical Description

TOXO-MOX SB combines Amoxycillin, a broad-spectrum β-lactam antibiotic, with Sulbactam, a β-lactamase inhibitor. Sulbactam helps protect amoxycillin against bacterial β-lactamase enzymes, extending activity against susceptible β-lactamase-producing organisms. 

It is intended for treatment of susceptible bacterial infections in dogs and cats and should be used under veterinary supervision.

Indications / Recommended Uses

According to SAVA Vet, TOXO-MOX SB is indicated for susceptible infections including:

• Dogs: urinary tract infections, skin and soft-tissue infections and systemic bacteremia.
• Cats: upper respiratory infections including pneumonia, and skin and soft-tissue infections. 

Antibiotic selection should ideally be based on clinical diagnosis and, particularly for recurrent or serious infections, culture and antimicrobial-susceptibility testing.

Dosage & Administration

The manufacturer's recommended dosage is:

Amoxycillin 10 mg/kg body weight every 12 hours, or as directed by the veterinarian. 

Because the product is supplied as powder for injection, it must be properly reconstituted with the supplied WFI before administration. The final injection volume and route should follow the current product insert/veterinarian's directions rather than being inferred solely from the vial strength.

TOXO-MOX SB provides broad-spectrum antibacterial activity while Sulbactam inhibits susceptible β-lactamases that could otherwise inactivate amoxycillin. This makes the combination useful for susceptible infections where β-lactamase-mediated resistance is a concern. 

Contraindications & Precautions

Do not use in animals with known hypersensitivity to penicillins, amoxycillin, sulbactam or other β-lactam antibiotics.

Use cautiously in animals with significant renal dysfunction, where dose or dosing interval adjustments may be required.

Antibiotics should not be used unnecessarily for viral, fungal or non-bacterial disease. Complete the veterinarian-prescribed course even when clinical signs improve.

Possible Adverse Effects

Potential reactions to amoxycillin-containing products can include vomiting, diarrhoea, injection-site discomfort and hypersensitivity reactions. Serious allergic reactions are uncommon but require immediate veterinary attention.

Antimicrobial Stewardship

TOXO-MOX SB is an antibiotic, so inappropriate or incomplete treatment can contribute to antimicrobial resistance. It should be used only for bacterial infections where the combination is clinically appropriate and under veterinary supervision.

Withdrawal Period

Not applicable for the labelled companion-animal use in dogs and cats. SAVA's current official page identifies the product for dogs and cats rather than food-producing animals. 

Storage

Store according to the conditions stated on the current vial/carton and package insert. After reconstitution, follow the manufacturer's instructions regarding immediate use or permitted storage; do not assume that unused reconstituted solution can be stored for later use.
