Clinical Description:
KOL-L is a veterinary oral suspension combining Activated Charcoal with an Osmotic Laxative. Activated charcoal acts as an adsorbent in the gastrointestinal tract, binding many ingested toxins and undesirable substances, while the osmotic laxative promotes intestinal evacuation. This combination makes KOL-L particularly useful as supportive gastrointestinal management in poisoning, impaction and severe gas accumulation.
Indications:
According to official Carus product information, KOL-L is indicated for:
- Poisoning
- Impaction
- Bloat
- Tympany
Dosage & Administration:
Administer orally.
Cow, Buffalo & Horse: 1–2 ml/kg body weight; manufacturer literature notes 500 ml as one dose for large animals.
Calf, Pig, Sheep & Goat: 2 ml/kg body weight.
Dog & Cat: 3–4 ml/kg body weight.
Repeat dose after 12 hours.
For poisoning, Carus states 3–4 times the suggested usage, with repetition after 4–6 hours for 24 hours, or as directed by a veterinarian/nutritionist.
Key Benefits:
KOL-L provides gastrointestinal adsorbent and laxative action, helps bind many ingested toxins, assists intestinal evacuation and provides supportive management in poisoning, impaction, bloat and tympany. Carus describes it as an “Emergency Aid” formulation.
Precautions:
For animal use only. Administer orally according to body weight and veterinary advice. Poisoning and severe bloat/tympany can be veterinary emergencies; KOL-L should not delay examination and specific treatment.
Activated charcoal can interfere with absorption of some orally administered medicines. Therefore, simultaneous administration with other oral medications should be done only on veterinary advice.
Possible Adverse Effects:
Activated charcoal preparations may cause dark/black stools, while laxative components can increase bowel movements. Excessive administration may contribute to diarrhoea, fluid loss or electrolyte imbalance. Seek veterinary attention if significant or persistent symptoms develop.
Storage:
Store according to the instructions on the original manufacturer pack, in a cool, dry place protected from direct sunlight and excessive heat. Keep the bottle properly closed and out of reach of children.
Withdrawal Period:
For food-producing animals, follow the current manufacturer label and applicable veterinary/feed regulations. Do not publish an unverified milk or meat withdrawal period.
Important Warning:
For veterinary use only. Oral administration only. In suspected poisoning, identify the toxic substance whenever possible and obtain veterinary assistance promptly because activated charcoal is not effective against every type of poison.
