Composition

Each 5 ML contains:

Levofloxacin — 100 mg
Ornidazole — 200 mg
Aqueous base — q.s.

Clinical Description

Griptol-N combines levofloxacin, a fluoroquinolone antibacterial, with ornidazole, a nitroimidazole with antiprotozoal and anaerobic antibacterial activity. The combination is intended for infectious gastrointestinal disorders where susceptible bacterial and/or protozoal organisms are involved. 

Indications / Recommended Uses

Griptol-N is used for infectious diarrhoea, dysentery and gastrointestinal infections of bacterial or protozoal origin. Product information describes activity against susceptible Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, aerobic/anaerobic organisms, and protozoal infections including Giardia and coccidial infections. 

Dosage & Administration

Available veterinary product information gives:

Dogs: 3–7 ML per 25 kg body weight, orally, twice daily for 3–5 days, or as directed by the Registered Veterinary Practitioner. 

Shake well before use. Measure the prescribed quantity accurately. Complete the veterinarian-prescribed course even if diarrhoea improves earlier, unless the veterinarian advises otherwise.

Precautions

Use cautiously in animals with significant kidney, liver or neurological disorders. Fluoroquinolones also require particular veterinary consideration in young, rapidly growing dogs because of potential effects on developing articular cartilage.

Possible Adverse Effects

Possible reactions can include vomiting, nausea, reduced appetite, diarrhoea or other gastrointestinal upset. Hypersensitivity and neurological reactions are less common but require veterinary attention if they occur.
