Zoctim Tazo® Injection 3.375 GM
Manufacturer/Marketer: Intas Pharmaceuticals Ltd.
Division: NEOVET – Intas Animal Health
Product Type: Veterinary Injectable Antibiotic
Therapeutic Class: Third-Generation Cephalosporin + β-Lactamase Inhibitor
Target Species: Primarily cattle and buffaloes
Pack Size: 3.375 g vial/combipack.
Composition – Each 3.375 g Vial Contains:
Ceftizoxime — 3000 mg (3 g)
Tazobactam — 375 mg
Sterile formulation for reconstitution before injection.
Clinical Description:
Zoctim Tazo combines ceftizoxime, a third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic, with tazobactam, a β-lactamase inhibitor. Ceftizoxime provides broad-spectrum antibacterial activity, while tazobactam inhibits susceptible bacterial β-lactamases and helps protect the cephalosporin from enzymatic degradation. This combination is intended for serious bacterial infections, particularly mastitis in dairy cattle and buffaloes caused by susceptible organisms.
Indications / Recommended Uses:
Primarily indicated for treatment of clinical/severe bacterial mastitis in cattle and buffaloes, including infections where β-lactamase-producing susceptible bacteria are suspected. For recurrent, severe or poorly responding mastitis, milk culture and antimicrobial-susceptibility testing are advisable to guide antibiotic selection.
Dosage & Administration:
Available product information states 5–10 mg/kg body weight by intravenous (IV) administration. A repeat dose may be given after approximately 96 hours if required, according to clinical response and veterinary advice. Reconstitute the vial with the supplied sterile diluent as directed on the pack and use the prepared solution appropriately.
For Rayavets, I recommend displaying “Dosage and duration: As directed by the Registered Veterinary Practitioner” alongside the label dose because this is a prescription injectable antibiotic.
Key Benefits:
Provides a combination of a broad-spectrum third-generation cephalosporin with a β-lactamase inhibitor, helping extend antibacterial effectiveness against susceptible organisms capable of producing certain β-lactamases. The IV formulation is intended for systemic treatment of serious bacterial infections such as mastitis.
Precautions:
Use only under veterinary supervision. Do not use in animals with known hypersensitivity to cephalosporins, penicillins or other β-lactam antibiotics. Reconstitute aseptically and use the correct IV administration technique. Avoid unnecessary or empirical repeated antibiotic use, particularly in recurrent mastitis.
Possible Adverse Effects:
Possible reactions include hypersensitivity/allergic reactions, gastrointestinal disturbance or injection-related reactions. Severe hypersensitivity to β-lactam antibiotics requires immediate veterinary treatment.
Milk & Meat Withdrawal:
Because Zoctim Tazo is an antibiotic intended for food-producing dairy animals, milk and meat withdrawal periods are important. Follow the current Indian product label and veterinarian-prescribed withdrawal period.
Storage:
Available product information specifies storage below 25°C in a dry place. Protect from excessive heat and follow the current Intas carton/vial instructions for storage after reconstitution.
Important Warning:
Prescription veterinary antibiotic. For animal treatment only. Antibiotics should be selected and used responsibly. Severe mastitis with fever, anorexia, dehydration, abnormal milk or systemic illness may require additional supportive treatment and urgent veterinary management.
