Clinical Description
M-CEFT+ TAZO is a veterinary injectable antibacterial combination containing Ceftizoxime, a third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic, together with Tazobactam, a beta-lactamase inhibitor.
Ceftizoxime produces bactericidal activity by interfering with bacterial cell-wall synthesis, while Tazobactam inhibits certain bacterial beta-lactamase enzymes that can reduce the effectiveness of beta-lactam antibiotics.
Alembic specifically positions M-CEFT+ TAZO as a single-dose treatment for severe mastitis, including infections involving resistant beta-lactamase-producing bacteria.
Indications / Recommended Uses
According to Alembic Animal Health, M-CEFT+ TAZO is particularly indicated for:
- Clinical mastitis
- Subclinical mastitis
- Severe bacterial mastitis
- Mastitis involving susceptible beta-lactamase-producing bacteria
The antibiotic should be selected according to veterinary diagnosis and, where appropriate, bacterial culture and susceptibility testing.
Dosage & Administration
Alembic recommends:
Dose: 5 MG/KG body weight
Route: Intravenous (IV) route only
For severe clinical mastitis, the dose may be repeated within 72 hours if required, according to veterinary assessment.
The product should be properly reconstituted before administration according to the current package insert. Exact reconstitution volume and administration technique should follow the manufacturer's label and veterinary directions.
Key Benefits
M-CEFT+ TAZO combines a third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic with a beta-lactamase inhibitor, providing targeted antibacterial therapy for mastitis caused by susceptible organisms.
Alembic highlights its use as a single-dose treatment for severe mastitis, including infections involving resistant beta-lactamase-producing bacteria.
Precautions
Use only under the supervision of a registered veterinary practitioner. Avoid use in animals with known hypersensitivity to Ceftizoxime, cephalosporins, penicillins, Tazobactam or other beta-lactam antibiotics unless specifically directed by a veterinarian.
For dairy and other food-producing animals, strictly follow the current product label regarding applicable milk and meat withdrawal periods.
Responsible antibiotic use, correct dosing and completion of the prescribed treatment are important for reducing the development of antimicrobial resistance.
Possible Adverse Effects
Cephalosporin antibiotics may occasionally cause hypersensitivity reactions or local/systemic adverse reactions. Serious allergic reactions require immediate veterinary attention.
Because Alembic's public product page does not provide a detailed adverse-effect list, the current package insert should be followed for complete contraindications, interactions and safety information.
Storage
Store according to the conditions specified on the original product label/package insert, protected from excessive heat, moisture and direct sunlight.
After reconstitution, follow the manufacturer's instructions regarding storage conditions and permitted period of use.
Important Warning
For veterinary use only. Prescription antibiotic.
M-CEFT+ TAZO should be administered only under veterinary supervision. The manufacturer's stated route is IV only. Appropriate diagnosis and responsible antimicrobial use are essential.
