Zoctim® Injection 3 GM
Manufacturer/Marketer: Intas Pharmaceuticals Ltd.
Product Type: Veterinary Injectable Antibiotic
Therapeutic Class: Third-Generation Cephalosporin Antibiotic
Active Ingredient: Ceftizoxime
Target Species: Primarily cattle & buffaloes
Pack Size: 3 g vial/combipack.
Composition – Each 3 GM Vial Contains:
Ceftizoxime — 3 g (3000 mg)
Sterile formulation for reconstitution before administration.
Clinical Description:
Zoctim contains ceftizoxime, a broad-spectrum third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic. Like other beta-lactam antibiotics, ceftizoxime acts by interfering with bacterial cell-wall synthesis, resulting in bactericidal activity against susceptible organisms. Zoctim is positioned specifically for veterinary anti-infective use.
Indications / Recommended Uses:
Zoctim is indicated primarily for the treatment of clinical and subclinical bacterial mastitis in cattle and buffaloes caused by organisms susceptible to ceftizoxime. In recurrent, severe, or treatment-resistant mastitis, bacterial culture and antimicrobial-susceptibility testing are advisable whenever practical.
Dosage & Administration:
For cattle and buffaloes: 5–10 mg/kg body weight, administered by IM or IV route. Available Intas veterinary catalogue information states that treatment may be repeated within 96 hours if required. The exact dose, route, and need for repeat treatment should be determined by a Registered Veterinary Practitioner.
Usage Instructions:
Reconstitute the sterile powder using the supplied Water for Injection (WFI) according to the product insert. Use aseptic technique during preparation and administration. Intas catalogue information describes the 3 g presentations as combipacks supplied with WFI, sterile syringe and needle.
Key Benefits:
Provides systemic broad-spectrum antibacterial therapy for susceptible bacterial infections associated with mastitis. The availability of both IM and IV administration provides flexibility for veterinarian-directed treatment of dairy cattle and buffaloes.
Precautions:
Use only under veterinary supervision. Avoid use in animals with known hypersensitivity to cephalosporins, penicillins or other beta-lactam antibiotics. Dose accurately according to body weight. Unnecessary or repeated antibiotic use should be avoided to reduce the risk of antimicrobial resistance.
Possible Adverse Effects:
Possible reactions include injection-site discomfort, gastrointestinal disturbance and hypersensitivity/allergic reactions. Serious beta-lactam hypersensitivity requires immediate veterinary attention.
Milk & Meat Withdrawal:
Because Zoctim is used in food-producing dairy animals, the applicable milk and meat withdrawal periods must be followed. For the Rayavets listing, use the withdrawal period printed on the current Intas carton/product insert rather than publishing an unverified value.
Storage:
Store according to the manufacturer's current pack instructions, protected from excessive heat, moisture and direct sunlight. Follow the product insert regarding storage and use of the solution after reconstitution.
Important Warning:
Prescription veterinary antibiotic. For animal treatment only. Zoctim should be used responsibly and according to veterinary diagnosis. Severe mastitis accompanied by fever, anorexia, dehydration, marked udder inflammation or systemic illness may require additional supportive treatment.
