Clinical Description
XCEFT is a veterinary injectable antibiotic containing Ceftiofur Sodium, a third-generation cephalosporin with broad-spectrum bactericidal activity.
Ceftiofur acts primarily by inhibiting bacterial cell-wall synthesis, resulting in the death of susceptible bacteria. It is used for susceptible bacterial infections in livestock, particularly reproductive, foot and other bacterial infections where ceftiofur therapy is considered appropriate.
Indications / Recommended Uses
According to Alembic Animal Health, XCEFT is indicated for the treatment of metritis and other susceptible bacterial infections and is particularly positioned for:
- Metritis
- Pyometra
- Endometritis
- Foot rot
- Secondary bacterial infections
Dosage & Administration
Alembic recommends:
Cattle, Sheep & Goat: 1.1–2.2 MG/KG body weight, once daily for 3–5 days.
Buffalo: 2.0–2.4 MG/KG body weight, once daily for 3–5 days.
Route: Intramuscular (IM).
The 1 G vial should be reconstituted with 20 ML Sterile Water for Injection, producing a concentration of 50 MG Ceftiofur/ML. Exact dosing and treatment duration should be determined by a registered veterinarian according to body weight, diagnosis and clinical response.
Key Benefits
XCEFT provides broad-spectrum bactericidal antibacterial activity through Ceftiofur, a third-generation cephalosporin. Its injectable formulation is designed for livestock bacterial infections, including uterine/reproductive infections and foot rot, with a standardized 50 MG/ML concentration after reconstitution.
Precautions
Use only under veterinary supervision. Avoid administration to animals with known hypersensitivity to Ceftiofur, cephalosporins, penicillins or other beta-lactam antibiotics unless specifically advised by a veterinarian.
For food-producing animals, follow the current product label and veterinarian's instructions for applicable meat and milk withdrawal periods. Antibiotics should be used responsibly to minimize antimicrobial resistance.
Possible Adverse Effects
Cephalosporin antibiotics may occasionally cause local injection-site irritation, swelling or hypersensitivity reactions. Severe allergic reactions require immediate veterinary attention.
Follow the current XCEFT package insert for complete product-specific contraindications, adverse effects and safety information.
Storage
Store according to the conditions specified on the original product label/package insert, protected from excessive heat, moisture and direct sunlight.
After reconstitution, follow the manufacturer's instructions for storage conditions and permitted period of use.
Important Warning
For veterinary use only. Prescription antibiotic.
XCEFT should be administered under the supervision of a registered veterinary practitioner. Appropriate diagnosis, correct dosing and completion of the prescribed course are important for responsible antimicrobial use.
