Clinical Description

MASTIWORK is an intramammary antibiotic preparation for the treatment of bacterial mastitis in dairy cattle.

Cefoperazone provides antibacterial activity against susceptible Gram-positive and Gram-negative organisms associated with bovine intramammary infections. Because it is administered directly into the affected quarter, the antibiotic is delivered locally to the site of infection.

Indications / Recommended Uses

MASTIWORK may be prescribed for clinical bacterial mastitis in lactating dairy cows, particularly where susceptible organisms are involved.

Potential mastitis pathogens for which a cephalosporin may be considered include susceptible strains of Staphylococcus*, Streptococcus and Gram-negative organisms such as *E. coli. Selection of therapy should ideally be guided by clinical examination and, especially in recurrent or non-responsive mastitis, milk culture and antimicrobial susceptibility testing.

Dosage & Administration

Route: Intramammary use only.

Dosage: One intramammary tube into the affected quarter, with treatment frequency and duration as directed by the Registered Veterinary Practitioner and current manufacturer-approved pack insert.

Before infusion, completely milk out the affected quarter where appropriate, then thoroughly clean and disinfect the teat end. Avoid touching or contaminating the applicator tip.

Contraindications & Precautions

Do not use in animals with known hypersensitivity to Cefoperazone, cephalosporins, penicillins or other β-lactam antibiotics.
