Clinical Description

ALMIZOL WS is a multi-action veterinary topical spray formulated for wound management and maggot control.

Cypermethrin provides ectoparasiticidal activity and contributes to maggot control. Dichlorophen has antimicrobial/antifungal properties, Chlorocresol acts as an antiseptic and disinfectant, while Gentian Violet provides additional topical antimicrobial activity.

This combination makes the spray particularly useful for contaminated or fly-prone wounds where wound protection and control of maggot infestation are required.

Usage Instructions

For external use only.

Alembic's official instructions state:

Clean the wound thoroughly and spray ALMIZOL directly over the affected area twice daily. 

Treatment duration should depend on the wound's severity, presence of maggots or infection, and veterinary advice.

For deep wounds, abscesses, severe tissue damage or extensive maggot infestation, appropriate veterinary wound cleaning, debridement and additional systemic treatment may be necessary.

Contraindications & Precautions

For external use only.

Avoid spraying into the eyes, mouth, nostrils or other mucous membranes.

Do not allow excessive licking of freshly treated areas.

Use carefully around cats because pyrethroids such as cypermethrin can pose particular toxicity concerns in cats; use on cats only when the current product label specifically permits it and under veterinary guidance.

Do not rely on topical spray alone for severe wounds associated with deep tissue infection, extensive necrosis, fever or systemic illness.

Possible Adverse Effects

When used appropriately, the product is generally intended for localized topical application. Possible reactions can include:

• Temporary local irritation
• Redness or sensitivity
• Skin irritation following excessive application
• Toxicity if a significant quantity is ingested
• Rare hypersensitivity reactions

The current official Alembic webpage reviewed does not specify a meat or milk withdrawal period for ALMIZOL Spray.

Storage

Store in a cool, dry place, protected from direct sunlight and excessive heat. Keep the container properly closed and out of reach of children.
