Clinical Description

Mectin 10 MG Tablet contains Ivermectin, a broad-spectrum antiparasitic of the avermectin group. It acts on susceptible parasites by disrupting their nerve and muscle function, resulting in paralysis and death of the parasite.

It has activity against several endoparasites and ectoparasites and is used in veterinary practice for parasite control under professional supervision. 

Indications / Recommended Uses

Mectin may be prescribed for susceptible parasitic infestations including roundworms, hookworms, mites, lice and mange caused by susceptible mites, including sarcoptic and demodectic mange. Ivermectin is also used in specific veterinary protocols for heartworm prevention, but heartworm dosing is very different from mange/deworming dosing and should not be extrapolated from the 10 MG tablet strength. 

Dosage & Administration

Route: Oral.

A veterinary drug index lists Mectin 10 MG Tablet for small animals at approximately 1 tablet per 10–15 kg body weight. A published study in goats used Mectin ivermectin at 0.2 mg/kg orally for gastrointestinal nematodes. These are different species and indications, so a single universal ivermectin dose should not be applied across animals or conditions. 

For dogs and cats, administer strictly according to a Registered Veterinary Practitioner's prescription, particularly because ivermectin safety and dosing vary substantially by species, breed, parasite and indication.

Key Benefits

Mectin provides systemic antiparasitic activity against susceptible internal and external parasites. It may be useful in veterinary management of intestinal worms, mites, lice and mange, depending on the diagnosed parasite and prescribed dosing regimen. 

Precautions

Use ivermectin carefully in dogs with known or suspected MDR1/ABCB1 drug sensitivity, particularly Collies and related herding breeds. 

Do not exceed the veterinarian-prescribed dose. Extra caution is appropriate in young, debilitated, underweight or seriously ill animals, and when other medications are being administered.

Possible Adverse Effects

Ivermectin overdose or increased sensitivity may produce excessive salivation, vomiting, weakness, lethargy, dilated pupils, loss of coordination, tremors, visual abnormalities, seizures or other neurological signs.

If neurological symptoms develop after administration, obtain veterinary attention promptly.

Storage

Store in a cool, dry place, protected from direct sunlight and moisture. Keep the tablets in their original packaging and out of reach of children and animals.
