Clinical Description
LOREXAINE is a topical veterinary preparation combining antiseptic and ectoparasiticidal activity. Gamma benzene hexachloride (lindane) provides ectoparasiticidal action, while Proflavine Hemisulphate and Cetrimide provide topical antiseptic activity.
The combination is intended for external application to help manage wounds and skin lesions where contamination and ectoparasite involvement are concerns. The formulation is documented in veterinary medicine procurement records as a wound/skin ointment.
Indications / Recommended Uses
LOREXAINE Cream may be used under veterinary direction for:
- Wound management
- Cuts and abrasions
- Superficial skin lesions
- Infected or contaminated wounds
- Skin lesions associated with ectoparasitic infestation
- Supportive topical care of wounds at risk of secondary infection
Usage Instructions
For external use only.
Clean the affected area and remove dirt, debris or dead tissue as appropriate. Apply a thin layer of LOREXAINE Cream over the affected area, according to the current product label or veterinarian's directions.
Frequency and duration should be determined according to the nature and severity of the lesion.
Key Benefits
The formulation combines three complementary components: Gamma Benzene Hexachloride for ectoparasiticidal action, Proflavine Hemisulphate as a topical antiseptic, and Cetrimide for additional antiseptic cleansing activity.
This makes LOREXAINE useful as a veterinary topical preparation where wound hygiene, microbial contamination and ectoparasite control need to be considered together.
Precautions
Use only externally and avoid contact with the eyes, mouth and other mucous membranes. Prevent animals from licking the treated area.
Because the formulation contains Gamma Benzene Hexachloride (lindane), it should not be applied excessively, over very large areas, or for prolonged periods unless specifically directed by a veterinarian. Use extra caution on extensively damaged skin and in young, debilitated or sensitive animals.
Possible Adverse Effects
Local redness, irritation, itching or skin sensitivity may occasionally occur. Excessive exposure to lindane-containing preparations can potentially cause systemic toxicity, so recommended topical use should not be exceeded.
Discontinue use and seek veterinary attention if significant irritation, unusual behaviour, tremors or other unexpected signs develop.
Storage
Store in a cool, dry place, protected from direct sunlight and excessive heat. Keep the container tightly closed and away from children, animal feed and food products.
Follow the storage conditions printed on the current product pack.
Important Warning
FOR VETERINARY USE ONLY — FOR EXTERNAL USE ONLY.
Do not allow the animal to ingest the cream. Use according to the current product label and veterinary advice, particularly because it contains Gamma Benzene Hexachloride (Lindane).
